Before arrival to Poland 

A foreigner entering Poland in required to possess and present, upon request, a document confirming possession of:

- health insurance under the National Health Fund or

- travel medical insurance with a minimum amount of insurance in the amount of EUR 30,000, valid for the period of the student stay in Poland, covering all expenses that may arise during the stay in Poland related to a necessary return to the country due to medical reasons, the need for urgent medical assistance, emergency hospital treatment or death, in which the insurer undertakes to cover the costs of healthcare services provided to the insured directly to the entity providing such benefits, on the basis of a bill issued by that entity.

NOTE: Travel medical insurance is issued by the insurer who provides a 24/7 emergency call center service to report an event that is under the responsibility of the insurer:

1) having its seat or branch in Poland, a European Union member state, a member state of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) - parties to the agreement on the European Economic Area or the Swiss Confederation, or

2) without a seat or branch in Poland, an EU Member State, an EFTA Member State - parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or the Swiss Confederation, but which additionally meets the following conditions:

a) publishes the results of an audit of activities carried out by a recognized international audit entity indicating the actual possibility of satisfying claims against the insurer due to entities providing health services in the territory of Poland,

b) publishes data on the sum of collected premiums and the size of payments in a given type of insurance at least every six months.

After arrival in Poland

EU and EFTA citizens

Students can use helathcare services on the basis of a valid European Health Insurance (EHIC). Such persons should equip themselves with the EHIC before leaving their country. In order to get the basic care, you should go to a doctor who signed the contract with the NFZ and present the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or a replacement certificate. Primary healthcare includes testing and advice from a GP. The doctor can also refer the patient to diagnostic tests, to a specialist or to a hospital.

Emergencies: In the event of an accident, injury, delivery, sudden illness or sudden deterioration of health, you should call an ambulance or go directly to a hospital, in particular the hospital emergency department (SOR). You must show the European Health Insurance Card or replacement certificate at the hospital.

EU or EFTA citizens who are not entitled to insurance in their country of residence - are reported for insurance by the University on the terms applicable to Polish students. More information can be obtained from the AGH UST Division for Student Affairs at dss@agh.edu.pl.

 

Non-EU/EFTA citizens

Citizens of other countries benefiting from medical care on Polish territory must pay for medical services. However, thanks to an appropriate medical insurance policy, e.g. required for a visa, the costs of medical care can be settled with the insurance company.

Students can also voluntarily insure themselves with the National Health Fund and pay the health insurance premium on their own. In order to sign the contract, please contact the National Health Fund in Krakow (contact: www.nfz-krakow.pl/kontakt).

Non-EU/EFTA citizens – holders of valid Cards of the Pole or oficially recognised as students with Polish origin
